The most expensive FIFA trophy ever made has a history dating back to the 1970s and is now one of the most expensive pieces of kit on the market.
The 2017 FIFA World Cups trophy is the most-watched sporting event in the world and sold for an estimated $2.5 billion.
It was originally built by former German football coach Jurgen Klinsmann as a symbol of Germany’s dominance of the World Cup.
“Klinsmann had the ball, he had the people, he didn’t have a lot of players,” the late-life Klinsman said in his 2011 autobiography, “A World of Soccer”.
“He was a man with the balls, the passion, the vision.”
He was not alone in that vision.
In the 1970-71 season, the German team, known as the “Munich team”, scored the only goal in the first half against Brazil in the final of the European Cup.
The result was the first World Cup goal scored by a team without a goalkeeper, the only time a team scored two goals in a match in the tournament.
Klinsman said that the goal was inspired by a German song by the same name that featured the lyrics: “If you have a goal, it is the greatest thing ever”.
In 1974, Germany won the World Championship.
It wasn’t the first time the trophy had been sold, but it was the most sought after.
A number of teams used it to sign players.
It took six months for the auction to be completed and the first bid on Wednesday was for $1.6 million.
The bidding ended on Thursday morning.
It’s estimated that more than 10 million pieces of the trophy were sold.
The FIFA website lists the price of the world’s most expensive football trophy as $2,749,000.
The most costly trophy ever built is the $1,619,000,000-piece trophy from the 1930s that was sold at Christie’s in New York.
It is currently valued at $2 billion.
A replica of the 1939 trophy, the “Berlin” one from the 1950s, was sold for $3.8 million.
“We are very happy with the auction, the quality of the auction and that the trophy has been preserved for generations,” FIFA president Sepp Blatter said in a statement.
“It is an important part of our history and it is also an important gift for our fans.”
The world’s biggest soccer trophy was unveiled in 2018.
The price of a football trophy has risen dramatically in recent years as football leagues have grown in size and budgets.
In 2015, the average cost of a trophy in the US was $5 million.
In 2017, it was estimated that the cost of the Fifa trophy was $3 billion.
