More than 60 hunters who said they are ready to pay up to $50,000 for the rarest trophy in Texas said on Wednesday they would use the funds to buy a $50 million hunting license.
The Texas Game and Fish Commission, which oversees hunting in the state, said it would allow the hunters to buy licenses at auction, but it will not issue them to anyone who did not buy the licenses and the license holders could not be sued for selling them.
The hunt is one of the most lucrative in the world.
Texas is home to a total of 8,600 trophy hunters who hunt at least once a year, according to the Texas Game Commission.
Some hunters said they were willing to pay more than $50.2 million for a license.
“If it means that I can get my trophy back, I’ll do it,” said James Taylor, a Texas hunter who said he would buy a license if he could pay $50 and a license for the first time.
“I’m not going to do it for nothing.”
“I think I’m going to take a step back and look at the situation,” said John Smith, a hunter from New Braunfels, Texas.
The hunt began on Dec. 5, with the opening day of the season in Texas.
Most hunters have spent at least a year in the hunt and are prepared to pay about $30,000 to $40,000.
The trophy hunters are known as trophy hunters for their long, white tails and their long horns.
A Texas Game Board spokeswoman said in a statement that the trophy hunters had been in Texas since the 1920s.
“The trophy hunt is the only game in Texas, the only trophy in the United States, and the only hunt where the Texas Department of Game and Wildlife (DSFW) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA) are responsible for the safety of hunters and game, both on and off the field,” the statement said.
The license sale would not include the trophy itself.
It would allow a person to hunt as many as six hunting seasons in one year.
It is not clear how many hunters would buy licenses for a single season, although some said they had done so.
In Texas, hunters can hunt up to 20 years, but most will only hunt for the state’s prized trophy.
The Texas Game is one the most popular hunts in the country, and many Texas hunters have made millions of dollars on the hunt.
The first hunting season, in 2009, saw a record 4,531 trophies.
